Welcome to advanced commercial systems, a home of the roof, marriage. This is another podcast that we’re having here on another wonderful Monday morning. Sometimes we like to do our podcast on our early Monday morning and so we get our day rolling, right. And really, uh, a lot of times the question or the podcast topic or the question of the podcast that kind of motivates us and steers what we’re doing here in commercial roofing, broken arrow. A lot of times that is driven from the week before. You know, we, we get some insight from the week before we get a question. We run into an issue or a problem from the week before and many times that will direct us and specifically the topic that we talked about that for that week when it comes to commercial roofing. Uh, you should give us a call here at advanced commercial systems and really ran the gate.

You should go check us out on the online. Our website is okay. Roof nerves.com just go and Google that or just Google, you know, advanced commercial systems here and commercial roofing broken arrow. And you’ll pretty quickly see that, uh, what we’re about and what we do. And so here at advanced commercial systems, home, the roof nerds, um, for the last, I know by the way, I’m Marty, the owner of the company, I’ve started the company years ago and have been the owner and founder of the company and I want to just cover, kind of do a highlight coverage of what my few last few to have been here with the company running the company, uh, things we’ve been doing. And then also just some updates on different types of a TPO that we’ve been working with. We just did some more classes and moving forward with some certifications in some different different types of TPO.

So, so if you, when we talk about TPO, it is the white plastic roof that you see on top of, of buildings. It’s real bright, it’s reflective of UV, right? White Uv with lights, uh, to also Claremore sand springs. You see it anywhere, you know, commercial roofing, broken Arrow, you see it all the time. And then, so what happens is we put that up on a roof and basically being a plastic roof, it’s called a thermo plastic. So I kind of liked that name. It is a type of single ply. And then that just is saying that it’s just a one ply product. And so it’s literally called a single ply. And then it’s called a thermo plastic. And so that is a type of, of single ply that is a plastic version. There’s another one called thermo set, which can be plastic and rubber depending on how it’s made.

Um, it’s, it’s like Edm, which is more of a rubberized type of product. And so the TPO that we refer to all the time, that stands for thermo polyolefin. So, so poly Olefin is the type of chemical composition that it’s made from. So TPO, and so when we put that up on a roof, it really has a great, uh, capability of reflecting UV rays. So that’s a large part of its job. Another part of his job, the really, the most important part is a very thin being a very thin single ply membrane. Um, that is not, doesn’t have to be glued town. It can flop in the wind. It literally creates a great water tight barrier. That’s a huge part of with TPO is about. And then another aspect of TPO is literally that it’s, it’s inexpensive to install. You know, when I buy a 10 square role, I get a 10 square role for around 500 to $520 a square.

You know, just for your basic 60 meal, which is the medium grade, which most the majority, probably 90 95% of the industry is, is selling this 60 mil TPO. Now when I say 60 mill here in commercial roofing broken Arrow meal refers to, cause that’s Mil, that refers to the thickness 60 meals. So it’s 60 million and now, no it’s not millions. It’s 60 meal. Now that is referring to 60 thousandths of an inch. So if you get an inch, you divided into a thousand increments, which is pretty small increments. 60 of those would be the thickness of this product. So you can imagine how thin this stuff really is. It’s really thin. But let me tell you the, the power of the 60 Mil Tpo, uh, this, the power of it is called the scrim. Now that is the base Matt, when they put this TPO together a lot, many times, many of the manufacturers that make the top is white, you know, just the standard color grades.

And then on the bottom it’s black. And in that black, um, there is woven fibers of nylon, very hard, very strong fibers. You can’t just take them and rip them and break them with your hand even when he’s very small fibers and they almost work just like a stream. So it’s basically like these really strong nylon strings that are interwoven, lack, a lack of [inaudible]. We’ve an Indian basket, you know, something like that. And so these nylon fibers are extremely strong and that’s what gives TPO it’s strength. Now when you get to, uh, the, the lesser meal, like there’s a 45 mil TPO and I’ve installed one, I’ve installed a very large roof of 45 mil TPO. Actually two very large roofs. I forgot about the other one. I’ve installed what probably close to 500, 600 squares of a 45 mil TPO here in commercial roofing broken Arrow and which the TPO itself, um, was only 45 meals and thickness and did not have a base, a scrim in the product.

You know, there’s a lot of commercial roofing contractors, there’s a lot of commercial roofing companies that you can call and there’s a lot in town and I’ll tell you there’s some really good ones in town. But that’s what I’m throwing a little punchline here real quick. With advanced commercial systems, we answer your call. We are known, you know, if you were to call our property managers today and ask him one question, you know, what’s the most, uh, you know, what’s the best thing about advanced? What do you like about Marty? What do you like about the roof nerds? What do you like about the guys, Sam and the guys and all the things they do? Um, I’d have to say they would probably have to say that they answered their phone when we rang a, when the phone rings, they answer their phone as quick as possible.

And we’re really impressed with that. That’s the kind of, uh, that’s the kind of things that we hear all the time from our clients because they call us a lot and we answer every single time. So yesterday I had one phone call from one of my property managers. I think it probably answered them the second ring, you know, we hardly ever let a car go by. Occasionally we’re in meetings, but normally if I’m on a ladder or if I’m on a roof, I obviously don’t answer the phone when I’m on the ladder. But here in commercial roofing broken Arrow, we obviously keep to all ocean safety standards that need to be met, you know, for the commercial roofing industry. But if I’m only roof, I’ll take a call or I’ll take a call and say, hey listen, I’m on a roof. It’s pretty windy up here.

Give me about 15 to 25 minutes and I’ll give you a call back, you know? And so those are the things we do. And actually had, what, two or three days ago, I had another pretty substantial, pretty good sized commercial roofing company call me and ask me some questions about some things that they didn’t understand what some built up roofing. So this is this kind of stuff we get all the time. You know, I really like roofers up there. They’re great people. I like building relationships with them and being able to visit with them and learn from them and they learn from us and we just really build a all together in the industry. Um, we, we just really create a great working system of a commercial roofing systems and assemblies that have been put together by us and by them here in commercial roofing broken arrow.

One of the aspects of TPO, we’re going back to our topic today. One of the aspects of Tpo, um, not just the UV. Um, but you have multiple ways of installing it. So there are, is it not just one set way? So within TPO there are multiple ways to install. One of those is called mechanically fastened. That’s where we get these, uh, you know, two and a quarter answer, two and two and two and a half inch plates. And we screwed down the TPO with screws that were screw through the roofing system and then through the roofing decking. And it needs to penetrate through that roof decking. You know, somewhere between three quarter of an inch and a quarter. It needs to penetrate through that roof decking so that it gets, uh, it gets a good bite. Good hold on. That roof decking. And then, you know, we can always do a pool test, which I’ve seen times when we’d definitely have need a pool test. This is something else we can help with in commercial roofing Broken Arrow.

A pull test is when we screw a screw into the roof and the system and then we put a pooler on it and we begin to pool to see how many pounds of strength. Many times we want to have close to 300 pounds of strength. Um, you know, for a roof system to be held well. So if every screw can handle 300 pounds, uh, cause you really need to imagine here in commercial roofing, broken air, we do live in the heart of, of Tornado country. We do live in the, I mean I 44 going to Oklahoma City to Tulsa is basically one of the most hammered highways in the entire world with winds and storms. And so that highway goes deliberately about five miles from my house and it comes straight to us here in Tulsa. And so, uh, many, many storms just come up high. This is why you want the experts in commercial roofing Broken Arrow.

I 44 that, that parallel, that plane there and come right on in here with some really good wins. So these winds can be extremely strong. And with these winds being strong here in commercial roofing, broken Arrow, these winds will go over the edge of a wall of a roof of a building. And when it goes over the edge of old, you know, like a straight line wind blowing straight into the side of the building. Well, the portion of the top that hits the top of the building goes ope up the wall and over the parapet wall to where it hits off into the flat plane of the roof. When it does that, it creates this pulling up force called lift. We’re going to stop right here and pick up next week with our next podcast here. Thanks for joining us again here in commercial roofing. Broken error with advanced commercial systems.
