Welcome to the basketball from systems, the most wonderful commercial roofing company in the entire world. I tell you, we’re excited today about doing another podcast for you. We’re excited today about doing a nother podcast concerning commercial roofing here in advanced commercial systems, home of the roof nerds. We are professionals in the commercial roofing industry. Now we do residential roofing as well, but here in commercial roofing Broken Arrow, we really love to do commercial roofing. It is our forte. And today we’re talking about different types of storm damage. We’ve got wind damage, we’ve got hail damage. Last podcast we covered quite a bit concerning um, different types of Hale and different things about it. You know, there is tons of science that has gone into the study and of Hail. There is tons of sciences is going into understanding the damage that hell does. And so we hear it at that’s commercial systems.
We are all about helping you learn more so that you can do the best that you can do with your building envelope. And so, uh, today we really want to share with you our, there’s a lot of different aspects to the technical side and the science and, and the many different aspects of commercial roofing. Uh, have you ever heard of a green roof? Green roof is an area of a roofing system that’s been planted with landscaping. Basically plants have been put on a roof and it’s created in a water, uh, waterproofing site. You know, type of level of the roof level is literally becomes, you know, um, a garden for the most part where you grow. Uh, so then also, so you have the roof membrane and then you have a roofing system and then you have the roof assemblies. So all of these put together with a green roof system.
And so, and then many times you have a thermal barrier in this system. Between the Oh there between these steel roof deck and the installation base layer, you have an installation base layer that’s a thermal barrier and it’s between that and the vapor retarder if the vapor retarder is needed. And so many times cover board, thermal barriers, different types of coatings, aperture senses of soul stacks, stacks and Vance, AC and h, vac units, conduit and piping, interior drain, scuppers et Cetera. All of these parts are part of that of making a commercial roofing with a green roof. And so there’s different types of flashing which is a transition material, you know, between harder horizontal and vertical planes or surfaces. And so there’s many times according to the Lstm as required terminations as required penetrations that must meet code and must meet in specifics that are set forth with the standard testing results that we always look for.
So here at advanced commercial systems we love commercial roofing Broken Arrow and once again we’re still talking about commercial roofing today here in commercial roofing, broken out. And so they, you know, one of the things that we really are passionate about here at advanced commercial systems home with a roof and ours is low slope roofing, low sloped roofing is the challenge in the industry because you’re basically taking an extremely low slope. According to the National Roche Roofing Contractors Association, you could have just one eighth of an inch rise for every lineal run in front of the roof. And so when a roof slopes down, you’re literally within code only to having a one eighth of an inch of a slope, a for every running foot. So, um, there are so many different aspects of low slope roofing that in my opinion are so much better, so much better equipped and work so much better as far as the steep slope roofing because steep slope roof and many times they just done what they’d done because the water’s getting off the roof.
So sometimes you get no less material, less, uh, you’re, you’re compromising at times. But with low slope roof and you basically are needing to build like I was swimming pool liner, you’re basically needing somehow to create a water tight, waterproof, a roofing system that can have standing water on it and torrential, pouring down water on it and not leak. And so there are some different aspects of the low slope roofing components. So unless this name, a few that are part of the assembly of the decade, Thermal Barrier, vapor barrier, insulation and the membrane. So these are the most common types of aspects of the low sloped roofing component. Now talking about the membrane, you could have multiply systems, lack built up, uh, like MoD bit. You can have single Bly systems like EPD em, uh, you know, the thermostats, the thermoplastics, PVC, a TPO, you know, thermo polyolefin.
And so all these are some different aspects. Now what about the waterproofing materials? You might be using a hydrocarbon such as that have been an, uh, what about polymer modified bitumen plastic thermoplastic thermoset plastic. There must set rubber. And also what about just good old metal people love metal roofs here in commercial roofing, broken air. So then you have this basically another aspect of the membrane of fabric reinforce. You have some membranes that are basically have us have a fabric reinforcement built in them, which gives a stability strength. It’s hard, uh, when, when it comes time for them to be strange, uh, induced by temperature changes. What about mechanical forces? We see that a lot in all groups. We ever go to puncture resistance, not just hail coming down but also people dropping a tool or just walking. You were had a rock in your shoe, walked on the concrete and you can hear that rock scraping before you want to pull the rock out.
Imagine getting on a roof with that. It happens all the time. What about the, the carrier for manufacturer? So there’s many, many different aspects of that. Now what about the protective surface? Seen predictive servicing, lack of the UV aspects, the heat, uh, impact resistance, aesthetics of this, you know, meaning, how does it look? The fire resistance and mechanical forces and the impact resistance and then, or some roof products. Some roof membranes are actually manufactured in the field and these are coatings is SPF, which is spray foam spray foam and you mix it up and you spray it on and it rises a little bit. It’s a low rising foam and you basically create a roof membrane. Then you do need to come and put another coating on top of it. But yeah, here in commercial roofing, broken Arrow, we, we do it all. We really do.
And then you could, good old, wonderful, good old built up roofs, you know. So we’re building that roof membrane with a liquid hot asphalt right there on the roof. And then there’s other pre manufactured and merely applied where we’d do them in the field like plastic metal and you’ll modified bitumen, polymer modified bitumen. And so let’s talk about insulation. Different types of installation. We’re just going through and listing and just sharing some different aspects here in commercial roofing Broken Arrow. So there are many types of insulation. Uh, I so is one of the most fun, most, uh, popular, which w the technical nerd nerd of that, that could technical name of that. Uh, term of that is poly ISO. Then you also have xps, which doesn’t have quite as much of a hard value per thickness. Now, Polly ISO own an average has about 5.6 of an r value per inch.
Now xps has about five as, so an r value of about five. And then when it comes time to, oh by the way, before we go any further back, a few years ago, about 10 years ago, Paulie, I so alone took up almost three quarters of the industry for installation. That is huge. Fiberglass gives a four hour value for one inch mineral fiber for about our value eps. Uh, that’s a great product. I’ve used it quite a few times. It gets about a 3.85 r value and then you have perlite and then you had wood fiber board, which gives about a 2.7800000000000002 per inch and then cellular glass. So all of these different types of insulation that we use in low slope roofing here in good old broken air, a commercial roofing, broken arrow. And then also one of the aspects that you want to keep in mind about, um, Paulie ISO board is it is 90% closed sale, meaning water that gets on it will not necessarily all the way permeate into it and create problems, whack like that. That’s why we want to help in every problem in commercial roofing Broken Arrow.
So it creates a high insulated quality and then in time the air diffuses into sales and replaces the foaming gas. And so we see that oftentimes in these CFF blowing agent issues. And so Pauli Iso curate is really probably icer board is a great product, but over time it does have a limit of a lessening effect and many times we’re using a cover board, a isoboard Polly, Polly Astra Board. We’re using a lot of those together. Now in the majority of the time I use a wood fiber board, which that is a good, you know, 2.7 our value of installation, we use that fairly often. A, I’ll use that on many, many jobs and oftentimes we just do it at a half of an inch, which only gives us about a 1.6 or 1.8 our value. Oh, I got it written here on my board next to my desk, half inch HD board.
Now the HD board, or I’ve recently used only has a 1.3 our value. So would that be in case? This is just some of the terms and some of the different aspects of commercial roofing here and at commercial roofing, broken Arrow here at bass commercial system.
